Skype has introduced free calling within US and Canada. I am currently testing both Skype and Gizmo, even bought phone numbers from each service, so people with real phones can call me too
So far the testing shows that Gizmo still has plenty of space for improvement. Call quality is inconsistent - I got three calls from same land-line phone - all three were different in terms of quality, ranging from horrible to acceptable. Skype’s call quality usually just above that - ranging from acceptable to excellent. However, I haven’t done any tests over modem or cell phone connection (due in next couple of days).
P.S. Don’t forget a nice headset, it helps a great deal!

Oh, and speaking of fiber optic… (January 23, 2007): ...that I was whining about here - Verizon already rolling with it. Some of my clients in Long Island, NY and Fair Lawn, NJ are the game. Bought a 3 month subscription for SkypeIn, to accept phone calls. Immediate testing showed that quality is pretty much same as on the cell phone, calls are pretty stable and clear. Will do more testing later on, but so far - I’m impressed.

While working on radio station’s web site I’ve visited many others. Ofcourse went on a regular check (so that our design wouldn’t look like someone else’s). Guess what I have found?
Lookie here:
http://www.radio1240am.com and then here:
http://www.templatemonster.com/website-templates/4519.html
and that’s from a web design studio called Million Dollar Productions… Kind of makes you think where the millions went…
