Spam… a LOT!

One of my current clients – russian-speaking radio station GenerationNX.com are preparing to move to a newer, faster server. One of the problems they are facing is e-mail migration.

For certain obvious reasons I want them to have a copy of all archived e-mails that they have stored on the server. They’re using plain old POP3 mail boxes with web mail access. As it turned out today – most of the mail was NOT deleted (and is not being deleted, for all I know) and kept in inbox. We’re talking about 18,000 e-mail messages, 99% of which is spam. Why? I wish I knew.

So now, second hour in the row together with client we’re cleaning their mailboxes from spam.
Because, you know, there might be a diamond in the rough…

Zealus Linx Catalog

We have moved our link catalog that used to be located at top.zealus.com to it’s own separate domain – wadv.net (We like to call it Web ADVert net). The idea behind it is that there will be three different types of links stored. Free (via redirect script), direct (plain paid and clients) and direct (preferred). Basically, system breaks down like this:
Free links. You can post as many as you want, catalog requires reciprocal link, it may take up to 30 days for link to be approved and posted.
Direct links. Subscription based, that is – your link stays direct as long as you pay, after subscription expires we keep your link for free but via redirect script. Takes up to 24 hours since the payment is posted to publish the link.
Direct client links. Clients of Zealus Web Design Studio get listed with direct links for free. Posted as soon as client’s web site is considered complete.
Preferred. Premium subscription direct links, always displayed above the rest of the links, links printed in bold letters. After subscription expires we keep link for free, still in bold, however, no displaying preference will be given. Posted as free immediately, upgraded to preferred within 24 hours of payment confirmation.

Right now system is ready to accept free subscriptions, PayPal subscriptions will be added shortly, payment by credit card is still being contemplated.

Radio Silence

Bad news – the radio I used to work with will probably go offline, if they will not be able to find enough sponsors to support them. Too bad, they’re nice bunch and their programs are much better then their competitors, it’s just that competitors have enough money to buy out their time spots.

As an alternative, there is a 24×7 online radio broadcast, the option they are now considering. Hopefully they’ll settle for something soon enough to advertise the decision while they still can. The bright side – much more people will be able to hear them.
